The Design Group thanks the Stanford Institute for Creativity & the Arts (SiCA), the Product Realization Network (PRN), the Stanford Center for Design Research (CDR) and the Stanford Carlab - The Automotive Research Community (CarLab) for financial support of EXPE '09. We are also grateful to the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) for their in-kind support. We are pleased to partner with these innovative groups, and invite you to learn more about them by exploring their web sites and talking with their representatives at the Design Fair.
About the Product Realization Network (PRN)
The School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University are proud to announce a new initiative, dedicated to enriching the product realization education at Stanford through immersive experiences with the manufacturing and design world.
At the core of the Product Realization Network at Stanford (PRN) is a group of faculty, staff, industry professionals and community "gurus" dedicated to educating students about the creation of products and the organizations that make them possible.
The PRN engages individuals from across the spectrum of the product realization community - undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, alumni, members of the community of practice, consultants and non-profit groups. This diversity of viewpoints and input creates a vibrant network of people passionate about how products get made and are supported.
The Product Realization Network is:
• A student-centric organization providing an education that is deeply immersive and hands-on
• An educational initiative promoting current product realization processes and business concepts as a successful pathway to innovation
• Founded in product realization practices that integrate design, manufacturing and business, and informed by mathematics and environmental, physical and social sciences
• Supported by a community fused from academic, professional and industrial groups motivated by the educational enterprise

About the Stanford Center for Design Research (CDR)
The Stanford Center for Design Research (CDR) is a community of scholars focused on understanding and augmenting engineering design innovation and design education. We are dedicated to facilitating individual creativity, understanding the team design process, and developing advanced tools and methods that promote superior design and manufacturing of products. The affiliated research labs that comprise the Center for Design Research are headed by Professors Larry Leifer (Director), Mark Cutkosky, Sheri Sheppard, and Chris Gerdes.
CDR develops concepts and technical solutions for design thinking, concurrent engineering, distributed collaborative design, and design knowledge capture, indexing and re-use. We focus on methods and tools for improving the design of specific engineering systems, with research in structural integrity evaluation and system modeling, virtual design environments, biomimetic robots, haptic controls and telemanipulation, vehicle dynamics, and driver assistance systems.

About the Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts (SICA)
The Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts (SiCa), established in 2006, serves as the core programmatic hub for the Stanford Arts Initiative, leading the development of new undergraduate arts programs, hosting artists in residence, awarding grants for multidisciplinary arts research and teaching, incubating collaborative performances and exhibitions with campus partners and other institutions, and providing centralized communication for Stanford arts events and programs.

About the Stanford CarLab
Stanford CarLab is the automotive affiliates program on Stanford Campus. The goal is to shape the future of the automobile by facilitating collaboration between academia and industry. The program cultivates automotive research through lecture series, symposia, exchange of researchers, and support for research projects.
Founded by Professors Chris Gerdes (Director of Dynamic Design Laboratory, DDL), Sebastian Thrun (Director of Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, SAIL), and Clifford Nass (Director of Communication between Humans and Interactive Media Laboratory, CHIMe Lab), the program strives to reach unprecedented levels of safety, performance, sustainability, and enjoyment. In addition, Stanford CarLab maintains strong relationships with the Stanford Law School and the Graduate School of Business to address the challenges of future automobiles in a truly interdisciplinary fashion.
Current industry members are Bosch, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen as the relatively new program seeks additional partnerships in automotive and beyond.

About the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD)
The Stanford Center for Professional Development connects professionals worldwide to the research and teaching of Stanford University faculty in the School of Engineering and related academic departments. Qualified individuals may study for master of science degrees on a part-time basis, pursue graduate certificates and professional certificates, take individual graduate courses and professional courses, participate in workshops, view free online seminars and more. Courses are delivered online, on the Stanford campus in the heart of Silicon Valley, and at the work site.
